The main areas of activity of the FIAU are:
- Protecting the interests of Ukrainian insurance companies (association members) at both national and international levels.
- Developing the insurance market in Ukraine.
- Facilitating the exchange of information and proposals to form unified positions on the restoration and development of the insurance market, relevant legislation, and proposed amendments.
- Protecting consumer rights.
- Promoting a positive image of insurance in Ukrainian society by raising awareness among government agencies, business representatives, and the public.
- Developing codes of ethics and professional standards for insurers, including cooperation with insurance intermediaries and other participants in the insurance services market, and implementing best practices in insurance and related services.
- Developing and implementing principles and approaches for the professional education system: adopting qualification requirements, organizing educational programs, training courses for professional development, and certifying insurance market participants.
- Encouraging innovation in insurance and pensions through surveys, questionnaires, research, etc. to improve products and services.
- Promoting social responsibility among association member insurers.
The Ukrainian insurance market is currently undergoing active transformation. Under the stewardship of the National Bank of Ukraine, state regulation of insurance activities has been strengthened. The entry into force of the Laws On Financial Services and Financial Companies, On Insurance, and On Compulsory Insurance of Civil Liability of Owners of Land Vehicles has brought into effect requirements aligned with European directives, with particular emphasis on consumer protection and the creation of transparent market conditions.
The introduction of effective regulation and the implementation of international standards and best practices in insurance supervision and corporate governance have made the insurance market of Ukraine more transparent and financially more stable. This empowers us: motivated by our responsibility to the country, we are committed to making insurance an effective instrument of stability for households and businesses in times of uncertainty.
The insurance sector’s share of Ukrainian GDP currently stands at 0.7%.
We are carefully analysing the experience of our European colleagues to identify which insurance segments are most developed and which factors enable that growth. We plan to implement best practices in close cooperation with the regulator and with executive and legislative authorities.
Step by step, we strive to realise the full potential of the Ukrainian insurance market and to increase premium volume fivefold —
to €5 billion.
